weather reflectors and lights be a legal requirement or not i would say it is down to you as no copper however bored etc is ever going to doing anything apart from maybe stop you and recommend a set of lights or reflectors but will never charge you (if you do get stopped don't quote me!) due to the amount of paper work

I'm running out of space on my seat post. Got light and reflector on there, but wanted to put a mudguard on too but the post is all taken.
I have seen wedge bags with reflectors built in. Might be a two birds one stone problem solver.

It should also be mentioned that the presence, or absence, of reflectors on the nations bicycles is not just low, it does not appear at all on the police's list of priorities.

It may not be on the police's list of priorities but you can bet it would negate any insurance claim you may try and make against someone after a collision. Insurance companies don't make buckets of money by writing out cheques.

If you ride older cycles (pre 83?) the regs do not apply, I also believe the law says they must be fitted at sale but what happens to them after that is up to you. (But I may be wrong)
P.S. What about bells? :giggle:

What about them, lovely evocative sound of them pealing out from the church as you sit on the village green cold beer in hand listening to the thwack of leather on willow (or Mr Jacobs at No9.) as the sun dips lower in the sky........ Aaaahhhh.

Then then some (k)nobber on a bicycle comes along tinkling their infernal bell using it to say "shift peasant, I'm too important to even deign to give you the courtesy of a hello or excuse me" and all tranquility is shattered

*more popcorn there? *

I actually only have one bike (The Trike) that has a bell, none of my other 9 do. Trouble is I keep forgetting it has one as none of my other.......................
So not a 'Bellringer' here. :becool:

Yeahbut . Have you any evidence that any insurance company has ever refused or reduced a pay out because someone's reflectors weren't up to standard?

You came across as quite positive here

Cheers Adrian, I have no personal experiance but would have thought they would use the law to reduce payouts.....if indeed it is the law, seems to be in question here......
