Help needed setting up 9 speed Shimano STI gears!

I have to say my set up is very smooth and once you've fiddled with the cables I'm sure you'll be more than happy.

All I can say is I have Sora nine speed lever, Alivio rear mech (MTB?) with a triple and it works fine.
I would have thought what you have should work.

Exactly my setup, but in 8-speed.

An Alivio rear mech and 2303 shifters have got me faultlessly from Carlisle to Lairg over the last few days.

MTB derailleur changed their pull ratio at 10sp, and road derailleur changed at 11sp (plus Tiagra 4700).

Any 8 or 9 speed rear derailleur should work with your shifters

Alivio is one of Shimano's 9 speed MTB groupsets. It will be a perfect slot in.
