Absolutely. This should be shouted loud and clear and regularly, especially in the week that Jo Cox's murderer was sentenced.I'm a tad disappointed that so much of this thread - whose title actually seems to me to have potential - has turned into an 'I don't like x' ercise.
For some slightly more positive heresy, I think politicians are much-maligned.
I don't know any personally, but I think it likely that many if not most are driven largely if not entirely by a desire to do what they can to advance the common good, as they see it. I think good constituency MPs far outnumber bad ones, and most will do their best to help constituents who need help. I think almost all start off meaning well, and a large proportion remain that way. Of course ego and money play their part, but I suspect most politicians, in this country and many others, probably work harder, and for better motives, than they are ever given credit for.
The problem with the NHS is chronic over demand for it's services. The problem with the NHS is chronic underfunding. Adding 1p to income tax will go a long way to solving the problem.
No it's not, User gave a very succinct reason earlier in the thread. The problem with the NHS is chronic over demand for it's services.
And incompetence, poor management, greed, localism, political interference, adherence to an outdated model and a rose-tinted nostalgia...
ApologiesNo it's not, User gave a very succinct reason earlier in the thread.
FTFYThe problem with the NHS is chronic over demand for it's services CAUSED BY THE incompetence, poor management, greed, localism, political interference, adherence to an outdated model and a rose-tinted nostalgia...
Really? So better management would mean the NHS is better managed?? You heretic!!!FTFYSorry but I do feel that if there was better management in the NHS it could be run so much better.
and overpopulation and people expecting services from the NHS that they shouldn't expect free.Except on the whole you'd be wrong to suggest that the rise in demand for services is down to "incompetence, poor management, greed, localism, political interference, adherence to an outdated model and a rose-tinted nostalgia..." It's not - they compound the issue.
Rise in demand is down to things like an ageing population, advances in medical science, more people living with long term conditions, the fact that the NHS is primarily focused on cure rather than prevention...
.. surprise, fear, ruthless efficiency, an almost fanatical devotion to the Pope, and nice red uniformsApologies

Why ever not? Although we are now straying so far off topic it ought to be it' own circular topic.and overpopulation and people expecting services from the NHS that they shouldn't expect free.
I think an outright ban from the forum will be excessive but maybe a 6 month suspension would be more suitable.Withnail and I was shite as well.
I live in a vibrant multi cultural part of London. I needed the doctors last month but had to wait days and days for an appointment. As I sat in the waiting room for 2 hours you can just guess the make up of people there. Entirely dominated by white old people. The only brown people I saw were the exceptionally busy yet competent staff.I don't think overpopulation is an issue really - there is capacity in the system, it's just not very well used.
But I would agree that there is a need for a real robust debate about what the NHS is there for and what it's limits should be - or whether the population is willing to dig deeper if it wants more.
