hi all,
just ordered a road bike for commuting on just a cheap one for now as i havent cycled properly for ten years.how far do others commute and how long does it take you?

People's commutes on here vary widely from a few hundred metres to 50+ miles a day.

Personally, mine is 2.5 each way, and is a 25minute round trip on my hybrid MTB with road tyres.

Hello mate

Today is the start of my 4th week of communting to and from work. Did it to get fit, loose the fat and save cash on petrol and cancel gym membership.

Its 17 mile each way, mostly undulating flat, but lots of back and forth over the country lanes.

When I started it took me 1 hr 20 mins each way.

Now though, if I don't do it in under an hour I am slightly disapointed !

good to hear thanks.my commute is 24 miles each way by road but am told its shorter on the cycle paths.i used to cycle 11 miles each way years ago.this commute should be nice tho as i work at the foot of snowdonia.hopefully get my fitness back up to scratch before the winter.

72miles today, yep, really. This certainly isn't normaly though. I just fancied taking the long way around.

Normally anything from 15-30miles each way. I rarely go direct anymore and i don't tend to do it if I open the curtains to be greated with heavy rain.

21 to work, anythig between 3 and 21 home again, but most often or not 9 or 15. I only live 3 miles away and it doesn't really feel much like a ride if I go direct and even 9 feels like cheating.

A lot of variables there; it could take anything from about 1h50 to just 1h depending on terrain/ fitness etc. I think I would allow for something in between.

4 miles each way, takes me about 15 mins usually. If I could drag my lazy arse out of bed any earlier I might even add a few more. As it is I'm thinking about moving to live further away from my work so that I have no choice.

7 ish - 32 mins there 29 back best times.
To be fair i prefer going the longer route to work. Coming back is always into a headwind.

10 miles each way. 50 minutes coz I pootle slowly through the streets of London.

I have to get through :

4 lots of Traffic lights
7 Islands

9.25 miles each way for me takes about 45mins going and 35-40 coming home.Fairly flat route with just 1 granny ring hill about 8 miles in hence why I get home quicker
