I got a speeding ticket

I got a speeding ticket for doing 48 on a 40 dual carriageway a few years ago. Flashed by a camera. The stupid thing was, up ahead traffic was queuing to get onto a roundabout I could see it and knew I would have to stop soon so there was no point in speeding anyway.
My fault, my fine, my points. No complaint.

You are offered, not ordered, to go on a driver education course which you can decline, but yes it is instead of accepting 3 points and the £100 fine which in turn you can decline and elect to go to the magistrate's court to argue your case.

If you accept the education course, do you still have to tell your insurance company? If yes then at renewal, or straightaway?

I was offered a speed awareness course in Winchester, close to where the offence occurred. I live in London. It wasn't a difficult decision to make. I paid up and took three points.

You were clocked driving at 79mph on a dual carriageway which means you car speedo was likely indicating approx 85mph. You petrol head hooligan !

I am awaiting a letter through the post containing a speeding ticket. It is supposed to arrive within 14 days of the offence taking place (we are currently at 7 days). I know I was speeding though so will happily cough up the money (saw a mobile camera when I was doing 35 in a 30). I just hope it isnt points.

If it's a ticket I'd not be worrying about points or no points, I'd be worrying about insurance premium hikes.

I thought that you were joking but the best that one of the comparison web sites could come up with was £5174 fully comp or £4836 third party, fire and theft. Looks like a very expensive price to pay just to get to work on time.
