I got a speeding ticket for doing 48 on a 40 dual carriageway a few years ago. Flashed by a camera. The stupid thing was, up ahead traffic was queuing to get onto a roundabout I could see it and knew I would have to stop soon so there was no point in speeding anyway.
My fault, my fine, my points. No complaint.

You are offered, not ordered, to go on a driver education course which you can decline, but yes it is instead of accepting 3 points and the £100 fine which in turn you can decline and elect to go to the magistrate's court to argue your case.
If you accept the education course, do you still have to tell your insurance company? If yes then at renewal, or straightaway?
Hold on... this forum is full of threads and comments slagging off speeding drivers, and pointless stupid videos of people driving too fast/illegally/badly and who are dangerous to cyclists. Now here we have two members of the forum (at least one of who has recently been on the BBC decrying the state of the driving where he lives), admitting to crap and dangeous driving and there is a jovial air around it. If a member of petrolheads came on here saying "I drove too fast in a 30 mph area but I was late for work" he would be virtually hung!

Are we saying that being a 5hite driver is OK if you are registered on CC, and ride a bike? Maybe Emma Wotsername should buy a bike and start posting on here, then all would be different eh?
exactly...........

I was offered a speed awareness course in Winchester, close to where the offence occurred. I live in London. It wasn't a difficult decision to make. I paid up and took three points.

Seventy nine on a dual carriageway. Yes, it was a fair cop by a speed camera and I'm not complaining.

You were clocked driving at 79mph on a dual carriageway which means you car speedo was likely indicating approx 85mph. You petrol head hooligan ;)!

I am awaiting a letter through the post containing a speeding ticket. It is supposed to arrive within 14 days of the offence taking place (we are currently at 7 days). I know I was speeding though so will happily cough up the money (saw a mobile camera when I was doing 35 in a 30). I just hope it isnt points.

If it's a ticket I'd not be worrying about points or no points, I'd be worrying about insurance premium hikes.
That's a bit harsh - he's a young lad, wouldn't be normal if he pratted along at 29, this is the first signs of normality in his time on CC
He seems to have judged others quite harshly and now tries to justify his own actions. For me that indicates he is a prat.

Irrespective of his age.

over speed limit...........no excuse..........sorry:reading:

Aye, life's tough - I look forward to him starting a thread about it.

I thought that you were joking but the best that one of the comparison web sites could come up with was £5174 fully comp or £4836 third party, fire and theft. Looks like a very expensive price to pay just to get to work on time.
