If your vehicle was built before 1 January 1985, you can stop paying vehicle tax from 1 April 2025.

Not necessary to go back that far. Lower emission vehicles were exempt from VED for many years and carry than exemption on. My 2013 Fiesta is exempt.
Think its time they came up with a tax on a vehicles weight given the road damage that is no doubt being caused by EVs
eg A Peugeot 208EV is around a third heavier that its petrol equivalent.

There's no such thing as 'road tax'. All roads, apart from motorways and some trunk roads are funded through our council tax.

It is inevitable with the decline of ICE cars. The loss of revenue (both VED and fuel duty) will have to be replaced somehow.

I think the zero rate of VED has ended, and you'll need to pay £20 a year henceforth.
I'm in the same boat with my 308 hdi.

I doubt there are many cyclists who don't pay road tax for their cars though.

But there are a few (hello!) who pay no VED because they have no car. Fortunately, the road network is funded by general taxation.

Easier to keep roads clear as lorries etc do a good job of clipping the hedges back, plus you can get a tractor and hedge trimmer in to cut it back tight. As usual, councils are not that fussed about pedestrian and cycle paths because they don't seem to look beyond their noses. A chap I watch on YT clears paths that have clearly not been done for years

Some busy cycle paths in my are are becoming so overgrown that they will become unusable.
Wonder what will be said if the cyclists take to the roads as a consequence.

Most would argue that they pay for the upkeep of roads via their road tax which cyclists should also be paying 🙄🙄

I think you will find we all pay for the upkeep of the roads, as it all comes out of the pot.
