We had to do my mum's insurance recently - quote was invariably higher (can't remember how much) and I was surprised that for the first time I can remember, the renewal quote couldn't be beaten by the price comparison sites..

In other news I wonder if I could reduce mine further in future by removing "commuting" cover - since technically I think this is defined as "use to get to and from a place of work" while I stop half way and cycle the rest..

Insurance renewal just dropped into my email. £213 last year, £288 for the renewal (an increase of 36%). Not as bad as others have been reporting.

Just been on a price comparison site for almost identical cover for £241 with ’free’ AA breakdown cover. That means we can save on our current breakdown cover.

Plus we should get £24 cash back from Topcashback.

I've just sold the dog van and will be taking over the Mini as Mrs D's new MG ZS EV Trophy long-range (that's a mouthful) arrives on Tuesday.

Rang my insurers - sods law, I'm smack bang in the middle of the term - to change it to the Mini, but their underwriters won't insure the car. Christ, I'm a 56 year old ex copper, class 1 advanced driver with an unblemished 39 year driving record and was most aggrieved.

The lad on the phone said it wasn't me, t'was the fact it's an electric car and some underwriters won't go near them now. Seems a bit shortsighted to me, bit hey ho.

Hit the Meerkat and managed to insure the expensive, relatively high performance electric mini for only a few pence more than I'd been paying on the mundane Peugeot 2008 so happy enough in the end, although it was a ballache getting there.

It's eye watering at the moment, that's for sure. My quote in November was up nearly 60%. No claims or convictions.

However 35 yrs ago my then landlord had an Escort, I can't remember the model name but it was the hot hatch one. His 17 yr old daughter and he got a quote to put her on the insurance. After he recovered from the shock, he bought her a basic Mini, brand new, and covered her on it for less than the quote.

They managed to get out of paying my £20 Topcashback. I had retrieved a quote on the AA website rather than sticking all the info in again.

We went directly to the insurance provider, via TopCashback, and stuck in fresh details. I’ve seen some comparison websites do funny things when transferring data so prefer to do it myself. It’s the provider giving cash back not the comparison site, but I know a lot try and wriggle out of it either way. We’re not banking on it as we’ve got a better deal but it would be nice to have.

Home insurance renewal quote up 10.15% on last years. Given predictions are a 16% increase seems reasonable and it's one with £2,500 individual bicycle civer

My renewal has just dropped in to my inbox. The old premium was based on a 10yr old Discovery 4 , swapped that out in the Autumn for a 4yr old Merc A Class . Premium didn’t change at the time , renewal has now come in at a 25% increase !!

My campervan insurance went up by nearly 30% this year.

But what surprised me was that as I'd been a bit naughty tis year and gained 6 points from two speeding tickets, I obviously needed to tell them when the renewal notice came through. So I fill in their form and submit it, two days later I get the new quote, which included those in the driver details, and the amount had not changed by a penny.

Got a new quote elsewhere and kept my premium the same . Funnily enough current insurer on the price comparison site came in at last years price !! So why raise it a £100 ! Well I know the answer ! Next one to dance around is my house insurance !

Trying to sort out son no. 2's insurance plus mine; we share a 'multicar' policy. The current insurer's put it up 30% but it appears to be both my little Vauxhall and the Honda CR-V hybrid that are the problem.

I'll give them a call tomorrow and we'll probably separate his out from my two, as he's probably able to insure solo now he's been driving for over 2 years and has NCB plus I'll lose my long-term NCB if I'm not careful.
