Get a tag along or another suitable addition to the bike depending on age/size of said sprog...

Oooof.... joining a Skyride will certainly teach you the skills needed to swerve round small children and brake hard to avoid muppets who cut across in front of you.

I don't know if cycling clubs do sub 10 mile rides however which is about where the OP is at from other posts

I never had an issue on the few group skyrides myself, just keep away from the kids (my general motto in life  )

I met Mick recently and he's a strong bloke; he just needs to sort out the fitness side of it and he'll be sprinting away at warp factor Cavendish.

I remember when I lost the mojo to ride, only happened once mind about 4 years ago. I rode the most direct route to work which soon sorted me out and was back to my robotic mindset later that afternoon. Cycling's not a hobby, its a way of life.

I think everyone goes through losing their cycling mojo. It's as much as cycling life as is cycling. As people have said, if your not feeling it, then don't go out. It usually does come back, normally with a vengeance ^_^

@Wetdog you haven't been ill or run-down recently have you? That can sometimes have a longer lasting effect than you realise, and only manifests itself when you start to exercise (you feel really weak, and lacklustre).

Nice clubs do. There's a 1 hour ride (maybe 6 miles) this evening (and second Thursday of each month), 7pm South Quay, King's Lynn for example... or there's a similar ride on the last Friday of the month at 6pm from outside the Mill pub on Mill Lane, Cambridge.

Anyway, bike handling in a group is a useful skill to practise before joining a fast tight-formation group which might contain someone who's not as good as they think they are...
