Cycling in today, the outside temperature was showing 3.5°C, and it was foggy - about 60 - 70 yards visibility. Had almost arrived at work when a character approaches from the other direction in shorts. Bright yellow lycra. Am I getting old, or is this a case of where there's no sense there's no feeling? I usually keep my legs covered until we are into the lukewarm temperatures at least.

I've never cycled in anything but shorts, even when we have had snow and cold/wet/windy weather. I don't tend to get cold legs but I have been wearing 2 pairs of gloves!! Yesterday's commute home was the first day I have had to stop and remove my jacket and gloves and cycle home in short sleeves  Now the weather is due to get colder again for the next few days  Jsut when you think things are looking up!!

Well at school this morning I'm there in my coat, scarf, woollie hat, gloves etc and another mum arrives wearing a strappy top and tracksuit bottoms (and no she didn't look as if she was about to go for a jog). I saw other parents looking at her too (and it wasn't in admiration of assets displayed) just shock that she wasn't wearing anything more.

I've swapped my winter tyres for my rest of the year ones and am now either in shorts or thinner longs. It's been very mild recently though the forecast is for more winter by the end of the week.

Baggy shorts over my lycra, rather than jogging bottoms, for the first time today, it was great. Set a new personal best going to work and broke the 12mph barrier for first time. Was planning on getting some Ron Hills but had thought to wait until next Winter now.

Coming home tonight it was a whole different ball game. Wore waterproof trousers over the 2 shorts, got soaked and the wind ground me almost to a stop a couple of times. Took me 24 minutes longer than the trip this morning, my least enjoyable ride yet.

I know what you mean, that is a chuffing strong southerly headwind out there and added 15 minutes to my commute home.

I had the most fantastic tailwind tonight, got collared by our American colleagues to sort a problem so didn't leave until eight, no cars, a tailwind and a fantastic sky to look at, I was tanking along on the way home, averaged 17 mph which beats my PB by 1.5 mph, literally blown along, was home in no time, only two cars went past, If Carlsberg did Cycle Commutes !
