Never liked the man, but just came across this in an article about Blackpool in today's Guardian:

"That evening, I go to see Ken Dodd, the patron saint of Blackpool, performing at the Grand Theatre. Dodd is 82 and a bit wheezy, and some of his joke are older than he is. But he is still magnificently intelligent, wrapping one joke within another. Many of them concern the length of the show - he likes to guarantee audiences it will finish in daylight. I only stay for the first half, which lasts two and a half hours...."

Two and a half hours! For the first half! At 82! He da man.

Impressive value for the punters no doubt but I can think of few things worse than listening to Ken Dodd for 2 1/2 hours.

I went to see KD in Peterborough a few years ago. Show started at 8pm and finished at 1:45am.
Value for money indeed. People just get up and leave when they feel they have had enough, which he and everyone else is ok with.

Doddy said he got a visit from the Inland Revenue. He told them there must be some mistake as he lives by the sea side  .

Unfortunately the theatre was burned down about 1 year later after being fully refurbished.

My dad used to deliver the newspapers to his house. I know you're waiting for the punch line but there isn't one; this is a true story.

Sorry to harp on about age but at 60 thats me ,not Doddy.

I have had the pleasure of seeing this Genius on many occasions .

A true comedy legend .

But also people likes Sykes ,Milligan,Hancock,Feldman and for a short time Starr.

Cannot understand the modern term for comedy now .They don't tell jokes now it's all observations of life .

But thats just my age problem .
