My car's turn today - passed with only 2 advisories - one was the same as last year (brake pad wearing thin O/S rear outer), the other was all brake discs worn, pitted or scored (not surprising as it's not been used for 3 weeks and my minimal use of the brakes when I do drive).
I'll take that for for an 11 year old Mazda.

You probably needed to give it a drive with a bit of braking to clean up the disks, that is assuming they are in generally good condition.

I know - it's frequently left unused for two or three weeks at a time and the first few brake applications are always accompanied by noise as the pads clean the discs. I plan on giving it a good run later in the week.

Son no. 2's Peugeot Partner Tepee is back with me and up for an MOT tomorrow.

It's been thoroughly cleaned inside and out, decent petrol in, oil but I'm still doubtful it'll pass due to a grinding noise from a front wheel bearing / CV joint / driveshaft. We'll see ...

You might get away with CV joint, difficult to pickup on static test. Grinding sound might by picked up on rolling brake test

Failed, but not on the things I thought it would:

The corrosion issue could be minor or very expensive. The other stuff was probably ignored due to obvious bodywork problem

Peugeot Tepee has a pass, plus a new wheel bearing which was the grinding noise:

The oil leak is because it's leaking from two places; the drain plug and the rocker cover gasket, as evidenced by two patches on my drive. We replaced the sump a few years ago so a bigger drain plug is in.

I wonder if the £20 of Shell V-Power petrol I put in made any difference to the emissions from a 180,000 mile 1.6 petrol engine that probably has a lot less than the original 89hp these days? It's worth £25 now as the price locally has shot up.

It won't be staying for too much longer, but gives us a bit of time to find a replacement run-a-bout.

What about the corrosion on the bodywork

Welded and approved. Apparently it was only a small piece rather than the MOT tester's nasty comment. Last year's was a big piece by comparison.

My wallet's £407 lighter but, given I'd estimated the value with a fortnight's MOT at about £300 and my guess is it's worth £1000 with a year's test, I'm up a little.

A chat with SWMBO this evening and it'll be going on sale shortly this evening with no need to sell quickly due to the new MOT. She wants something smaller as an emergency run-a-bout. Me? I was thinking of a convertible.
