Also worth bearing in mind that while 110,000+ people complained, many millions didn't.
They were watching Netflix.

A lot of the sofa guests I saw had some interesting anecdotes to tell of the time they met Phil.

Also worth bearing in mind that while 110,000+ people complained, many millions didn't.
Not quite true, the website was pulled in less then 24 hours as it was swamped, thats 110,000 complaints in just a few hours, if it hadn't been pulled it would have been millions of complaints

Rather than obsequious anecdotes, I prefer the Morning Star's reality check on the Duke's 'nature loving' credentials...

Among the 'obsequious anecdotes' was a clip of Phil fronting a BBC documentary in 1957 in which he spoke of the problem of 'melting glaciers'.

Then there was his role in the founding of the Worldwide Wildlife Fund in the early 60s.

Still, I'm pleased to see the commies at the Morning Star are still in there jabbing.

They were watching Netflix.

They weren't, millions were still watching BBC 1 and ITV, albeit in reduced numbers.

Not so.

The BBC received 'many' complaints, and in response to those put up the short lived web form to register a complaint and to register to get the BBC's response.

Your assertion that 'if it hadn't been pulled it would have been millions of complaints' is simply incorrect.

The BBC's regular complaints channels have been open throughout, thus no one has been denied the opportunity of complaining.

Yup, millions watched the funeral (13mill I think I heard? If so, that's more than Line of Duty! ). The royal-haters should really take that on board, as no-one was made to watch it.

The problem was the 2-3 days following Phil's death. Did 13 million watch any of the news programs when he was 2 days dead? Did cancelling the BBC2 schedule help anyone through their grief?

In general I think your direct numeric comparison is flawed anyway; the BBC could show the most appaling things - live executions, child porn, you name it - and they would get 500 viewers for every person that bothered to complain.

So around 53 million or so didn't?

I'd forgotten about his comments after the Dunblane murders. He really was an odious man.

The Queen would give you an argument, but what does she know?

So am I. Good to have an antidote to the compulsory forelock-tugging and round-the-clock boot-licking.

We've gone from reds under the beds to commies on the computer, but the patter is still the same old cobblers.

Like Nicholas Whitchell

Aye, so do I.
