Uhmed and Ahhed about trying this for ages. Just tried it and it really worked well.
Basically, I heated water in a ramekin. Added a drop of vinager (cos I have always done that when using a pan).
Slide 2 eggs in.....full heat for 1 minute.
Next time I will do 3/4 minute though it was still good.
Pros......
Quick
Easy to clean up.
Cons.......
Can't think of any.

Heating water in a microwave is extremely dangerous unless you're making absolutely sure you're not taking it anywhere near boiling point. If you put water in a microwave and give it enough energy to boil, it superheats without boiling, then boils spontaneously and explosively when it's disturbed. In short, it can explode in your face when you touch the water with anything! Unless you know how to calculate the expected temperature rise, it's a very unwise thing to do.

The same applies to eggs if you put them in a microwave.

In my post I said "I heated" the water.
I agree, care has to be taken.
Proof of the pudding etc.
EDIT.....
Prick the eggs with a toothpick for safety ie to prevent it exploding.

Wouldn't fancy doing it in our microwave, an old Toshiba 'Deltawave' 111* that is ridiculously powerful something like 1200 to 1400 watts. The only internet advice is for the later Toshiba models and they're still 1000w but the 'Deltawave' 111 is earlier and I believe more powerful (I think they had to reduce the power level for safety reasons)

* As advertised on TV by Una Stubbs

Mine is 900 W and, as I say, handled it well.

The egg will act as a nucleation point so it shouldn't superheat and explode.

What, pray tell, is a nucleation point ??

We used to have a wee double compartment plastic thing for poaching eggs in the microwave. Instructions were to crack an egg into each compartment (the size of a shallow ramekin) prick the yolks and add a teaspoon of water to each. Clip the lid on and heat for I can't remember how long. Perfect poached eggs every time.

When you stay in a hotel that’s part of chain and you get a perfect poached egg for breakfast. It will be cooked in the microwave, they buy them in bulk from Brake brothers.
