Miranda Hart Comedienne

I liked dinnerladies, not enough to want to watch it over and over but I would class it as funny.

+1

I have no problem in admitting to liking/watching TV comedy, it's just that I can't think of anything current that's funny IMO. There is just nothing these days that competes with the likes of Dinnerladies, Fools & Horses, or one of my all time favourites, Porridge

Brokenflipflop and his ilk sound like Second Lieutenant Steven Hauk (?) in Good Morning Vietnam: "I know comedy and that's not funny".

Imagining you're the arbiter of everything that is, or isn't funny has to be the hight of conceit.

I don't think I'm the arbiter of everything that is or isn't funny.....I just think Miranda Hart is shoot.

Anyway, chill out dude and learn to spell height instead of ragging my arse

Oh, her!!

Wasn't she in 'Smack The Pony?' (or whatever it was called), I always found that oddly amusing.

You're thinking of Doon Mackichan I think.

I find Sue Perkins quite watchable, a bit like a female Danny Wallace I don't really care what it is she's doing or what the show is, but there's something about her personality that makes whatever the show is that little bit more entertaining. Danny Wallace is the same - he has a self deprecating quality that manages to mock but not undermine what he is presenting (or writing) - would really like to see more of him on TV.

As I've apparently been labelled the arbiter of all things funny the clear winner has to be:

ALAN PARTRIDGE AHAAAAAAAAA !

You see, now you've spoilt it and reminded me that that fat one who wrote The Office, Stephen Coogan and Rowan Atkinson, though I admire their comedic ability, are 3 of the most arrogant people you'd ever want to physically damage.... arrogant little toerags.

As people I don't care for them much either but Gervais and Coogan in my opinion are comedy genius. Atkinson was superb in Black Adder goes forth but Mr Bean is a bit annoying.

I thought the office was class but the gold medal has to be Partridge for me.

Shaun Locke, good call!

It would appear that it's not cool to admit to enjoying TV comedy these days.... I'm not cool then!

I still love watching the same repeats of dinnerladies.

Never fails to make me laugh.

As for Miranda, it's the kind of show you can watch with your kids and laugh at safe in the knowledge you don't have to worry about her saying anything they shouldn't be listening to, same goes for John Bishop.

I did a job actually at St Gregory's in Farnworth where Pheonix Nights was filmed. The caretaker said that one day a couple of coaches full of people turned up from Brum out of the blue just to see where it was filmed - he let them all in so they could have a look around. Now that is keen.

Were they disappointed whn they got to look inside, and were they on an official tour?

St Gregorys makes Farnworth Vets look like Las Vegas.

I find comedy which derives it's humour by laughing at people is uncomfortable, so it does get limiting when I feel sorry for the characters rather than find them funny. So, Fawlty Towers, The Office, the first series of BlackAdder and the like don't do it for me.

Miranda Hart is truly dire.

I am always amazed by people's responses to entertainers of all sorts. "I think Miranda Hart is truly dire" is a correct statement of your opinion.

"Miranda Hart is truly dire" is just a statement with no basis in objective fact whatsoever.

All entertainers are commissioned to be on TV because someone thought that a lot of people would like them. Sometimes they are right and sometimes they are wrong.

Rowan Atkinson and Mr bean are classic examples. You may hate them, but the (mostly) wordless humour and slapstick comedy are very popular world wide.

It is not "an objective fact" by virtue of the fact that it is an opinion. I don't need to preface everything I say with "I think" or "I believe"; it is quite obvious that I think it because I am saying it.
