Monsal trail BBC midlands news An application has proposed bringing the trail back into use for rail travel After all the restoration work that has taken place restoring the track bed and opening the tunnels. If it goes ahead it is expected to be open in2030.I didn’t catch all of the news item but I did hear that it was possible a trail would run along side of the track.I for one would not want to walk or cycle along side an active railway line Sorry I didn’t catch more of the report say who has made the proposal.but apparently a new bridge would be needed where the original route crosses the A6

Someone floated the idea of reopening the Brampton Valley Way, Sustran 6, between Mkt Harborough & Northampton.
It'll never happen.
Hopefully the Monsal Trail will remain as it is!!

Well, write it down boy ......
There's a reason it was shut in the first place. Besides there's no way a cycle track could run alongside, in the cuttings it's already quite narrow. The local economy must get a boost from it as it is, it's always busy when I go on it.
Like others have said, it won't happen.

Can you imagine walking or riding along side a live railway track No thank you As you say always busy, even when I have visited in winter.Of all the converted rail tracks in Derbyshire this has to be my favourite.

I think I prefer the Tissington trail, the views are more expansive, but they're all great. I had a pleasant few days camping beside the trail at Parsley Hay, brekkie every morning from the cafe there :okay:

Same rumours for tissington trail tunnel
as said i doubt it because of the cost of investment needed to get them running would be outweighed by potential income generated if it was a viable service.

I was supposed to go on Monday, my birthday treat to myself, the idea was to set-off from Middleton Top, go around Carsington Water over to the Tissington trail, up to Parsley Hay then back down the High Peak trail to Middleton Top. My wife & friend or should I say ex-wife & ex-friend convinced me the weather would be bad so I didn't go, we had lovely weather!

Puzzle game procrastinator!
It does sound unlikely that the line would ever be restored! Normally, I would be all for it, but not at the expense of a valued cycle trail.

Funnily enough, I had been looking at the Monsal Trail for a friend yesterday morning. She wanted to cycle along it from Buxton to Bakewell but I discovered that it doesn't go all the way to Buxton (obviously because the other railway line is still in use).

My friend and her sister are not confident of riding in traffic and are not superfit either so I was searching for an acceptable way that they could get from Buxton to that end of the trail. I seem to have found one of the few remaining roads that the Streetview cars have not been down - from Bole Hill south through Tunstead! I can see that the Pennine Bridleway goes down that way. Does anyone know what the bridleway (or what looks like an alternative parallel farm track) is like down to the trail? They would walk their bikes up and down that section but how rough and steep is it?

This is a route that Komoot planned no idea if it's suitable, don't particularly like the road bit in the middle it's quite a narrow road
