The major depressing thing about the supermarket is the bill at the end! I sometimes sit on the window ledge waiting and I guarantee you that over 70% of people walking away from the till are looking puzzled at the receipt trying to mentally compare the bill to the contents of the bags/trolley.

£1 per item in the basket/trolley should give a rough rolling tally as you make your way round.
