If I remember right Apple have no payment limit, android systems have the same limit as the card you've linked to it.
Chase occasionally ask me to verify myself when making a phone payment (phone already unlocked) by using the fingerprint sensor before re-tapping the terminal to make the payment.

I rather doubt the latter. My Credit card has an £18,000 limit, and I doubt any shop would let me use my phone contactless for that much.
That is very much not true. I’ve never been blocked by the amount being used and I use it more than that really quite often. In fact I’ve used it for considerably more than that a number of times . Not once have I even been told that I cannot use that method of payment despite the vendor having that right.Most shops still have a relatively low limit - usualy £150 or £200, but still more than if using teh physical card contactless.
Another reason for using your phone. There is no limit on that (or if there is, I haven't reached it yet).
