My new bank card will let me buy stuff at a checkout, but won't let me access my account from an ATM

You can also add loyalty card, event tickets (cinema, theatre etc) boarding Passses. It only works if offered by the supplier but more and more do these days.

That's why I initially started using it, as EasyJet stopped storing boarding passes on their own app. Having harrumphed about it at first, I've come to really appreciate it, as it saves me getting twitchy about having to back up all my travel bits & pieces. It's a clever app.

Given the state of my Co-Op card it was a good job my phone could read the bar code.

The Co-Op nearest me has their scanners in an awkward place, its a struggle to get the phone in place. Not that their woeful vouchers are worth it and since they stopped the 10% student discount they're really a last chance saloon to buy anything.

Yes, but the tap in/ tap out costs 1:50 GBP to travel into York. If I paid cash, a single cost 3.00 GBP. If that happens more than twice, it gets expensive.
Oh, I thought the price was the same.
Seems a bit (for want of better word) illegal, no?
Mind, I rarely get the bus, when I do I do not pay, as over 60's in Scotland get free bus travel, a good discount on the underground and also a good off peak train travel discount.

That was part of the annoyance, as I'm used to unlimited travel on all local trains and buses from my Germany Ticket: why make it so complex in the first place? What's wrong with a week long travel card?

That'd have cost you approximately £20.

The drivers have to provide their own float for change, which is pushing the drivers to ensuring the TOPOC system is used.

Until you drop it on concrete, the battery is flat, or it just sulks.

I was surprised how easily my German card was accepted in the UK last month: the main problem was that about every fifth bus rejected it, and as they have a rather odd "tap on, tap off" system in York this immediately doubled the cost of travelling into the city from 1.50 Gbp to 3.00 Gbp...

What bus service was this on in York. As if it was park and ride it is a different service to normal buses.
I have to pay on Park and ride despite having a free pensioners bus pass, its a reduced rate though.

I've dropped mine on concrete a number of times, without it breaking anything (always in a case). Not had it sulk on me yet either. DO have to watch the battery, but I am generally pretty careful about that, and haven't had an issue yet.

This "tap on tap out" system seems to be becoming common. They are currently advertising it as making travel smoother on Transport for Wales.

I think it is supposed to make things quicker because you don't need to select your destination at the start, it is worked out when you tap off.

With First having gone to a single fare service, you ask for a single return all day or weekly ticket. Payable for by cash or electronic means.

A hang over from 2020.
