Is the Polar Bear still there? - I had a soft spot for it for some reason.

Yep. I like the dome in the ceiling, it's a bit fancy.

I like Newland Ave having a bit going for it these days, it's a big student area so I wouldn't call it yuppification. Still lots of charity shops.

They reopened Tower fairly recently, I don't know if it's still open. I've never been in, Spiders was more my scene, then Welly. For anyone who remembers it, LAs shut down. I didn't shed a tear.

I wasn't really dissing Newlands Ave. - it had some good studenty hangouts when I was there.

Good to hear the Tower is still in town.

Spiders I remember - we tended to go to The Waterfront - although I remember it burnt down or something after I'd left.

Glad to here the Tower is still open how about the Regent, still got the kissing seats at the back? What they showing this week? ;)

Don't know Spiders, perhaps it was The Rats when I was there. ;) Fond memories of The Brick House though, and Malcolme's had some good bands on Thursday nights.

No sadly not this 'grimpeur'! ( & those that know the area I live in, the term 'grimpeur' is very tongue in cheek) though a good post in HDM regardless from the other Grimpeur

The path of this thread does mutate as it goes along...

I quite like the changes to princes ave etc (I used to live in the area too) , more places to drink & eat is surely a good thing?

Have a ride out to South Cave. Theres a side road (dead end unfortunately) called 'Steep Hill', and the road into S. Cave ain't exactly flat. Think I achieved my fastest ever speed down it. No speedo to confirm though and I was being held up by a bus.

Princess Ave is a decent night out, and I'm way past being a student, either for a meal or just a visit of a few of the pubs. Regular live music in one of them as well.

Anyone remember the level crossing at the top end, where The Zoological is now?

Yup, and the bobby who stood in the middle of the road directing trafic.

Used to catch train to Hornsea there(or was it With?)

And that South Cave hill... I got spat off a brand new RSW16 when it got into a tank slapper going down there. Still got the scars, not sure if they are from the fall or from my Dad when I got home. ;)

hello fellow hull people. Nothing more to add as I haven't lived there for 13 years but my mum is still in E Yorks and I have never seen a Hull specific thread on the internet before! :hello:

Might check out the bike shop next time I'm up

Yeah, forgot about the guy in the little box in the middle.
Can't remember trains there, but maybe the guy in the box was a bigger draw to a pre-school me. I remember the crossing being closed and advertising hoardings across it, but have a very vague recollection of the Beverley Road level crossing as I used to wait there with my Mum at the bus stop after she picked me up from nursery.

It's not the avoidance of hill, just there aren't any where I live,

my favourite 'local' one is Trundle Gate just going into south newbald, your on a flat then its like dropping of the edge of the wolds, my fastest speed is down there 46mph (though I may have hit more on the last Big G where i climbed 2600m on the ride & then down's again, I was just that knackered at the end of the ride forgot to check!) mind you I got a wind assisted 34mph on a straight on sunday

Trindle Gate

Also used it as a hill for training for climbing for the big G.

if I'm ever near 'steep hill' i'll give it a go, though when young brantingham , & the cave's where my stomping ground for rides.

The trains at the end where Zooie is, i'd forgotten about this, have vague childhood memories too!
though I think my brother who worked on railways spent most of his 'lates' in botanic!

Right where does this go now?
