New to road cycling

When I got my road bike, it felt awfully strange and not particularly comfortable at all. I started with flat pedals for the first couple of months, merely because I wanted not to have to worry about an extra strangeness. After about three months, I bought some clipless pedals and MTB-style shoes. Naturally, I fell off within minutes ( some don't ) but I really love them now. BTW, get gloves with gel pads. Specialized BG range are good and well made. Protect your bum too. Padding is worth every penny. Have fun.

I fell over in clip pedals, I've had no issue with clip pedals! I wouldn't go back now, it is reassuring to be clipped in!

What do you mean by "clip pedals". Are they clips and straps or clip-in pedals i.e. SPD's.

Clips are clips with straps, the clip-in are referred to as clipless.
