When I got my road bike, it felt awfully strange and not particularly comfortable at all. I started with flat pedals for the first couple of months, merely because I wanted not to have to worry about an extra strangeness. After about three months, I bought some clipless pedals and MTB-style shoes. Naturally, I fell off within minutes ( some don't ) but I really love them now. BTW, get gloves with gel pads. Specialized BG range are good and well made. Protect your bum too. Padding is worth every penny. Have fun.

Guys

Thank you all for your contributions! I shall take on board all your advise. I look forward to getting my new road bike and writing a post on how my 1st ride went and first commute.
