Well I also found good gloves helped with issues I had with hands/wrists, tingling/numbness.

Some gloves with nice gel pads made the issue go away.

Stretching gear cables is a thing that used to happen but not on new cables anymore.
If cables stretched, indexing wouldn't work.

I fell off too, recently, twice in a week.
Just minor grazes, at my very low speed I'm never in grave danger unless from cars, but I must pay more attention.

Cables don't seem to stretch but casings, and more importantly casing ends, can settle in use and this is likely where the need for slight adjustments come from.
