How do we know the universe is infinite?
We don't, but Adams asserted it as the premise of his argument, so we can work within those confines.

How do we know the universe is infinite?
We don't even know the geometry of the universe.
If only there was some organisation looking into things like this.

Well some infinities are larger than others you know. Some are quite a bit larger in fact

It is the answer, but if you understood what it refers to you wouldn't be saying it's a waste of time.
I spent a good deal of my life asking people if they really understood what they were asking of me. They got there eventually, which allowed me to answer them much better.
So one infinity can be infinetly larger than another infinity?
The 'smallest' infinity is aleph-0. It is not known whether there are any other infinities between the countably infinite and real numbers. The 'size' of the set of rational numbers is the same as that of the integers which is the same as natural numbers etc.
