Contrary to popular belief potatoes were originally grown in ancient Egypt. We cant be certain of the date but the first crop was harvested in the summer of 2096 BC.
They were not grown for human consumption but were animal feed.
At first they were all perfectly square but the farmers complained that a) the animals found that shape boring and b) the corners dug into the delicate mouths of cattle.
At the time Egypt was run by a consortium of Pharo Smith and Pharo Walker. They decreed that henceforth all potatoes should be oval(ish) and random shapes.
This decree has never been revoked and the original copy can be seen in the London museum (you have to make an appointment to view it).

Potatoes were a root (sorry) cause of WWII.

To cut a long story short - potatoes allowed peasants to survive invading armies, Frederick the Great encouraged potato cultivation which enabled the peasants to survive repeated invasions during the Seven Years War, this gave rise to the myth of Prussian military strength which gave the Prussian-backed Kaiser the confidence to start WWI, which led to WWII

The train station in Ballyglunin in County Galway which famously appears in one of the opening scenes in “The Quiet Man” is to re-open thanks to Liam Neeson.

The Three Lions:

The heraldic badge of the English football team. Wonderful stirring stuff. Get behind the flag lads, kiss that proud ‘Three Lions Badge’

As far as Heraldry goes they are, historically, three leopards.

Big cats sideways on looking ‘off stage’ as it were, are lions.

If the cats are sideways on with their heads turned and looking AT you, are leopards.

Since May 1964, two men armed with large spanners, have been on constant duty at the Cheyenne Mountain Complex(Think Joshua, Tic-Tac-Toe). Ensuring that the 115,000 steel rock-bolts used to ensure the stabilty of the building, remain tight.
