A study in 2011 showed that the average person moans for 34 minutes on a Monday, compared to 22 minutes on the other days.

Even if you maintain a steady weight, scientists have found that Monday is the day of the week when you will weigh the most.

Like Morecambe and Wise or Wallace and Gromit, fish and chips are a classic double act - and yet they started life as solo performers. And their roots are not as British as you might think.

The story of the humble chip goes back to the 17th Centuryto either Belgium or France, depending who you believe.

Oddly enough, the chip may have been invented as a substitute for fish, rather than an accompaniment.

When the rivers froze over and nothing could be caught, resourceful housewives began cutting potatoes into fishy shapes and frying them as an alternative.

Despite being inordinately popular in Tudor times, the secret of cheap spray-on deodorant was lost for nearly 400 years.

A team of scientists have claimed the amount of sitting down we all do is linked to around 50,000 deaths per year in the UK and costs the NHS at least £700 million. What do they mean when they say sedentary lifestyle? Well, if you’re sitting down for six hours or more each day (whether at home or at work) you’re in that bracket. The Health Survey for England reported that 30% of adults in England spent at least six hours a day sedentary on weekdays.

On the weekends, it rises to 37%.

With regards standing up,
Standing five hours a day contributes to significant and prolonged lower-limb muscle fatigue, a small study concluded. This may raise your risk for long-term back pain and musculoskeletal disorders.

This isn't good news for the millions of bank tellers, retail assistants, assembly line workers and others who earn their living on their feet. The study authors pointed out that almost half of all workers worldwide spend more than three-quarters of their workday standing.
