Americans Francis Upton, an acquaintance of Thomas Edison, and Fernando Dibble are widely recognised as the inventors of the first portable electric fire alarm, an early smoke detector which was patented in 1890, although other fire alarms were in existence at the time.

As well as inventing a portable electric fire alarm, Fernando Dibble is also credited with founding the first American police force.

Fernando Dibble was later to carve himself a career in F1, using the racier sounding stage name of Alonso. He now works as a puppet appearing in Dolmio ads.
Clearly not true. There's no record of an Alonso Dibble in F1.

4,000 years ago in Babylon, a month after a wedding, the bride's father would supply his new son-in law with all the mead he could drink. Mead is a honey beer. This period was called the "honey month", hence the term "honeymoon".

Ever wondered where the saying " "Mind your P's and Q's" came from?

English pubs sell ale by pints and quarts. When customers got unruly, the bartender would yell at patrons to mind their own pints and quarts, and to calm down. Over time Bartenders shortened this expression to "mind your P's and Q's".
