Terry McCann, from Minder, invented the process of canning perishable food products such as soup and baked beans. McCann’s original canning factory was located in the dockland in East London, the area now known as Canning Town.

McCann later sold the rights to his canning empire to country singer Glen Campbell, who made his fortune from condensed soup. Campbell’s song “Galveston” was a tribute to the galvanising process used in manufacturing the first generation cans.

After selling up to Campbell, McCann used the money to open a frozen food factory near Scarborough.
Unfortunately he ordered the sign for the new factory from his pal Arfur Daley and it was misspelled McCain's. The name stuck.

Arfur Daley is Daley Thompson’s dad. Daley (senior) started off as a market trader, selling a wide selection of dodgy goods. However, his sports socks proved to be extremely popular, making his fortune. He subsequently opened a sports store called Decathlon, where young Daley served a brief apprenticeship.

The Decathlon was invented by Dec of Ant and Dec fame. Ant had gone AWOL, turned into a drink driving wine, and dropped out. In fear of losing his career Dec invented the decathlon in the hope of creating a new tv show in the vein of It's a Knockout,

According to a survey, bosses are most receptive to requests from their employees on a Wednesday. So if you’re going to ask for a pay rise or a holiday, make sure you do it on a Wednesday, people!

Jokes were invented by King Henry VIII in 1066.
He also passed a law decreeing that all of his jokes were funny.
Two of his many wives were executed for not laughing at the punchline, and Anne Boleyn because she forgot to say “who’s there?” when Henry invented the knock knock joke.

Bleak House, Charles Dickens, and Wuthering Heights, Emily Bronte, were set in the same house just outside Haworth.

In an effort to "bulk up" for the Bond role, Timothy Dalton overdid the steroids which gave him a hair trigger temper. An unfortunate mix up with some LSD on the set's catering truck led to a hallucinating Dalton going on a roid-induced rage. The director grabbed a camera and started filming. Everything you see in The Living Daylights actually happened.

Today marks the 321st Anniversary of the First Lighting of Eddystone Lighthouse, 14th November 1698

Situated near the mouth of the English channel, the Eddystone reef is among the world’s most hazardous stretches of water, infamously known for causing numerous shipwrecks over the years.

The original comic book Superman could leap tall buildings in a single bound. But then he had to come right back down to Earth—because he didn't fly.

It wasn't until the 1940s, when animators for a new animated series decided it would be too difficult to routinely draw him bending his knees, that it was decided that Superman could take off into the air.

Readers got to see smooth animation, and a superhero gained a new power.

Superman was nothing bit an attempt to rip off and Americanise british comic book superhero, Modest Man. Alas the British, tired from fighting g 4 world wars and discovering the East Pole, were not keen to become involved in another argument so they let DC Comics get away with it.
