Bronze is actually a harder and tougher metal than iron, much better suited for edged weapons. It wasn't until the advent of steel that this was to change.

But bronze technology was not supplanted by iron because iron is superior. No, it's because supplies of tin necessary to alloy with copper.toake bronze were cut off by several rather inconvenient wars, forcing the switch to the inferior substitute of iron. In technological terms the iron age was a step backwards, from which it took a millennium to recover.
