Occasional swimming, I used to swim four times a week, down to once a week these days.

Along wirh cycling, and I'm getting to do more again now,. I walk daily and have recently embarked on similar physio exercises to @postman for my kaput knees. I've lost nearly a stone this year building up the garden again from a compacted desert of clay.

Walk the hound every morning, cycle to the pool & swim every afternoon, walk to the pub every evening. Legs, upper body, bit in the middle - sorted!

I do strength training at the gym and cardio sprints with a personal trainer. He was in awe when I started off with 79kg leg presses... As a lady. The cycling has definitely paid off! It helps on the bike and I have learned to love a good gym session.

For me,
Walk the dog twice a day ,
Calisthenics for an hour, every other day, try to cycle as much as possible, but work, family life gets in the way,
Average weekly cycling mileage at the moment is around about 150 miles.
TBH,
my perfect day would be .
doing a 100 mile+bike ride, then go for a walk with my dog, it makes me feel good and relaxed,.
I need to give up work!.

Time you enjoyed wasting was not wasted
I like to walk as well as cycle. I used to go to the gym but from about 10 or 11 years ago when I was in my mid 40s I started to have trouble with my knees and then my shoulder, wrist, elbow etc until it got to the stage where every time I lifted a weight, another joint would go so I packed it in and started cycling, which i had done a few years before but it fizzled out when I started going the gym.

I still have trouble with my knees and sometimes it is aggravated by cycling so like the OP I also do the physio exercises I was shown when I had a couple of arthroscopes. They help but if I don't do them for a while the pain soon returns.

Walking is supposed to be really good for you and I try to follow the 10,000 steps a day guide, which is helped by an app on my smart phone. The only problem I have with that is that the pub is only 2,300 steps away from our house (about a mile) so quite often I need to get the other 5,400 steps in early in the day, which reminds me, it's just gone 9 so just off for the next 2,300 steps and back.
