I used to go swimming before my wife asked me why would I swim for so I stopped and she took up running at the time that I used to go swimming. So, no.

I sustained a large injury to my right thigh muscle as a kid, basically my leg was ripped open and the muscle torn apart. All the physio etc I did at the hospital and afterwards helped to some extent but it always hurt and was very weak and rubbish even though I followed their advice to the letter. Then I took up cycling and gradually my leg has got stronger and stronger and the pain went away. Don't do any phsio or anything now and barely get any pain (unless I strain it then Ouchy) and I can run, horseride and everything on it. Occasionally I have a limp but its pretty much a normal leg now which I'm pretty happy about

When you are, er, older you can dye your hair, wear tight t-shirts and you'll only look silly, nothing gives the illusion of youth more than some muscle. You live longer and healthier too. ^_^

Used to do weights but back/lack of enjoyment now says no. Now I hill walk, cycle and run. My job is active. If I didn't enjoy these activities then I'd stop, better if its something you enjoy.

Do some weights and stretching. Do Pilates during the winter as I find it improves my core strength. Used to do a lot of hill/cross country running but it was killing my knees. Only occasionally go running with my 15 year old daughter now but she's faster than me (competes at 1500m for school and county)

An hour or two swimming a week, so the top half doesn't completely rot away. Couple of miles walking in the lunch break. At the weekend generally alot of plodding about grocery shopping with a rucksack.

I try to do some light weights too - again to stop ending with T-Rex arms - but tbh stuggle to be bothered this time of year when I'd rather be outdoors.

Well I don't really cycle any more but I do walk around 5 miles per day in my job.

I did attempt a football'ing comeback last year after not playing for 12 years, that could have been a mistake as I now have lots of problems with knee pain whilst walking.
I was having similar problems back in 2011/2012 and thought I had developed arthritis but the pain has almost completely gone since I lost weight. With luck, you have not done any permanent damage to your knees, but ... you need to get back on your bike and slim down again before you do. :okay:

When I try walking carrying loads similar in weight to that of the flab I have lost, my body really complains!

And then you asked her why she went running, so she stopped, and you both spend the time you saved watching TV instead ...?

The plan is for me to get ready early morning and just as she tells me she's going out for a run, I tell her "me too!" and bolt it out the door thus forcing her to stay home (look after kids).
