Whilst in town on Saturday Mrs B dragged me into TK Max and I found a couple of shelves with bike related stuff. Saw quite a chunky Oxford lock and for £4 I thought bargain.

On my home from work this morning I stopped at Halfords, got a set spare set of clarke brake pads, then went to unlock my carrera and the lock wouldn't open. Tried a little more force and the key snapped, shoot. Back into Halfords for hacksaw and a new lock. I'm very tight with money and that hurt:sad: .
Fortunately with the Oxford lock being so awful it only took 5 seconds to hack saw the lock off.

So I guess my Nan was right buy cheap and you'll end up paying twice. Off for a lie down now to get over the cost of things in Halfords

I was going to say "chunky" doesn't always means hard to brake, as you found out.

I'd stay away from locks sold in places like TK Max.....

I get the impression that 'Oxford' was once either a quality bike brand and is now used to flog cheap tat, or its always been cheap tat lol

If you are prepared to spend the money, Oxford will sell you something to slow down any thief.

I bought one of these after my Giant got pinched as I was concerned that they would come back for my m/bike (that spindle is 20mm dia. It weighs 15kg so is a solid bit of kit (aren't cheap though)

My next cycle will be bolted to this for sure (call me paranoid)
