P.E.T.A Sue Photographer On Behalf of (Wrong) Monkey

This is rather surreal... even by US litigation standards...

"A US appeals court has debated whether or not a monkey can own the copyright to a “selfie” while the photographer whose camera captured the famous image watched a livestream of the proceedings from his home in the UK.

David Slater could not afford the airfare to San Francisco to attend the hearing on Wednesday. Nor can he afford to replace his broken camera equipment, or pay the attorney who has been defending him since the crested black macaque sued him in 2015, and is exploring other ways to earn an income."

What's more surreal is that a monkey has mastered the English language to such an extent that it is able to launch legal proceedings.
Calumny! You'll be hearing from my attorney.

Even if the macaque owns the copyright, the real question is why is Peta even doing this? Why are they expending vast amounts of money to beat up a single photographer? Is it really what their donors want? Will winning this set precedents that will help all the other animals who have had copyright works stolen from them.

Poultry farmers in the US are forced by the companies that they are raising the chickens for to keep them locked in a darkened barn for their whole lives. If they have open sided barns then they will no longer get any chickens to raise. If PETA could get the legal minds they are currently wasting on this to attempt to make those restrictions illegal, they could improve the lives of hundreds of millions of chickens. But no, let's just destroy a poor photographer.

The PETA UK website has just informed me of the exciting news that "Vegan Cheese is Coming to Pizza Express!"

Why should a self styled marketing company decide what's "ethical" for someone to eat?

There's "ethical" issues with food production, the world over. Plants should have rights, and the protection that would afford them.

All that's missing here is the "sentient" argument.

Solve all the problems by not eating or drinking anything.
