You two need to do a shift or two in an elderly care home and spend a bit of time cleaning up the doubly incontinent memory impaired residents.

I did that, at first in an old fashioned 'mental asylum' in the early 1980's, then later in an old folks home in the late 80’s, early 90's. Nine years in total of seeing some pretty gruesome sights! Dementia suffering residents pooping in communal coffee cups was common. The woman in charge of the old folks home used to say that the cups went through the dishwasher on a very hot cycle, therefore all bacteria was killed, but the thought of drinking out of a cup that'd had a Richard The Third in it, no thank you!!!!😲🤢🤮

On my first day on the ward as a student nurse in 1986, the job I was given was going round with a mop and bucket cleaning up diarrhoea that was all over the floor. This was the consequence of the Psychiatrist trialling a new drug and most of the patients got the sh!ts.

I just finished a similar shift as a hospital domestic (more pee today than poo!) and I had to spend an hour in my garden in the Scottish drizzle (!) to recover my mental health.
My supervisor always says the nurses should clean up bodily fluids, not us, but they never do.
I don't blame them

I was never a ward manager as I was community psychiatric nurse but I did do shifts on the ward to cover for staff shortages. I would never ask any member of staff to do anything I wouldn’t be prepared to do or assist with.

Cant think of any time i had to clean up pee or poop except my kids and grandchildren which, strangely, seemed OK.

It’s pooh we all do it. You just need to deal with it’s no big deal. I had no problem cleaning patients who pohed them selves but the ones who put their hands in their dinner then rubbed it on their face or hair.🤮

Yes, but did you ever have to mouth wash a patient that'd eaten their own 💩?! I remember one particular low grade (the name for those who had the mental capacity of a baby) often eating his own! 🫣🤢🤮

Yes I have done that. Would you me like to give the gory details of a patient who borrowed another’s coat and where they left a used sanitary towel.
Be careful when you put your hands in your pocket.😏
