Two hour ride. One hour clean. Tyres, rims, frame, chain, cassette. Almost as pleasurable as a ride.

Try to avoid all mud, puddles et c anyway, even if it means a a dismount.

Did I forget to mention cleaning the spokes?

As required really. I could ride my roadie for a month, and apart from drive train maintenance, wouldn't 'clean' anything, if it had been a dry spell. At the same time, 15 minutes on my off roader might end up in a strip down and clean lasting a couple of hours. As others have mentioned, I find a clean bike performs better, and I also agree that the whole process of keeping them clean to be almost therapeutic. The routine of a general check over of each bike, every weekend, can become tiresome, but I am satisfied that it pays dividends in durability and enjoyment.

Dry bike bikes - cleaned (usually) after each ride because it's a 20 minute job.

Wet weather bike - bike now gets stripped once a year anyway so I generally clean the chain and sprockets now and then.
