Prince Philip "retires"

Mrs M is due home from work shortly; I am not sure how to tell her that I have decided to retire. Well, I say retire, what I really mean is I have decided to stop walking about with my hands behind my back making irrelevant comments to strangers.

Have you thought about stopping sitting down with your hands on a keyboard typing irrelevant comments to (almost) total strangers?

As to a Republic. I don't see the attraction. To have a Head of State that doesn't want, and who is not allowed constitutionally, to run the country on a day to day basis seems infinitely preferable to Trump or Putin.

So does this mean he'll lose his millions in benefits seeing as he voluntarily chose to leave his job? because I guarantee if you or I did this you'd soon be told by the folk down the benefits office you'd be on your lonesome...

“He’s able to walk, talk and use his hands, that’s a hell of a lot more than most of the scrounging malingerers we approve.” Said a spokesman for the Department of Work and Pensions.

The Duke of Edinburgh is expected to start an upaid work placement as a check out assistant in Greggs..

Not bad considering the lockerbie bombing was in 1988 and the windsor fire in 1992.
The comment was made the year after the Windsor castle fire.

Just look at the pictures on the right hand side. There should be several of celebrities in bikinis. There may be a story attached, but that's not relevant. Just look at the naked flesh.

With regard to the articles, just tut and mutter "Its not like it used to be", "going to Hell in a hand cart" and "It's disgusting" in a random order, and purchase the stuff advertised, as they clearly are trying to reach people with high moral standards just like you.

I have little time for Royalty, the only good, politically, that they seem to do is occupy a position in the parade of the 'great and good' that would otherwise be held by a President Thatcher or Blair.
The hangers on, sorry minor royals, are something of a waste to my mind....

BUT....

I think the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh are worth their weight in gold to this country.

He has had a propensity to insert his foot in his mouth at times, but on the whole I think the UK is a better place for us all because he was the consort. The Duke of Edinburgh's awards and many of his other charities have been a boon to many. While he's clearly an upper class twit at times the good he's done offsets the gaffs, and his support for hunting, shooting and fishing most of which I don't get my approval.

We're all, to some extent, a product of the environment we have grown up in. I dare say were I born into minor royalty and then managed to marry the future Queen I may have exhibited certain upper class twit characteristics (as opposed to the lower class ones I do exhibit)

I'd like to cut him some slack. There are huge numbers of people way younger than him who are retired and not doing anything much at all. He has "worked" for 30 years beyond the stat retirement age. Sure it's not hard work glad handing but it's a lot more than most retirees do

How the **** can he retire, he has never done a days work in his life.

A slightly ignorant comment which nicely insults All the WW2 sailors who served their country

Taking part in battles in a warship and serving your country is not considered a day's work

I wil remember to inform the veterans that their sacrifices and efforts were not considered adequate by someone on the internet
