Not sure if they still do, but Halfords used to sell sheets of rubber patch material that you could cut to size. They also sold tubes of solution separately. Worked out far cheaper than any of the alternatives.
Oh yes, we still sell those.

Knog Porno Patches are the way to go! Strange concept ......a patch with a "rude" (drawn by a 10 year old style) picture. They are extremely easy to use when out on the road.....and I suspect my cycling companions deliberately get punctures just to get their dirty mits on my patches!

Of course it's best if one has one's servant follow in a van with a selection of spare wheels, or even spare bicycles as one is then prepared for an unscheduled deflation.

Even better, when it rains, get one's servant to ride the bike while one drives the van.

Some cuckoo spit from a twig and a piece of dock leaf will make a good and ecologically sound repair if caught out on country roads. At the right time of year. A sturdy twig will do as a tyre lever and if the puncture is very bad some silver birch bark makes an exceptional boot for your tyre. You don't have to rely on these artifical man made substances like rubber to get you out of trouble.

I have two servants. One to ride the bike and the other to drive the van. Actually three servants. One to beat them both soundly when they get home.

No sandpaper, no little block of chalk, no yellow wax crayon and not even one of those little rubber condoms you can use on old fashioned valves. What a rip-off. It is enough to put you off getting punctures.
Poundland and 99p Store puncture repair kits still contain those - along with Allen keys, a multi-spanner, etc. There's a lot of stuff in them that never gets used and just gets wasted.
