Being dumb is the one last legal fur of discrimination.
Obviously you don't want dumb airline pilots or brain surgeons, but yet the whole of society has been so captivated by intelligence, through the drive to become a tech driven society.

Jobs such as caring, driving or cleaning are greatly devalued.

Ironically those said tech jobs are being replaced with AI. Welders and brick layers and joiners are in high demand!

When I was a child 'dumb' just meant unable to speak. 'Dumb' meaning stupid was an Americanism that seems to have been adopted in the UK now.

From my dictionary of etymology, looking at dumb in the sense of mute or speechless, "in Old High German (thumb) it meant both this and "stupid," and in Modern German this latter became the only sense (the sense of "mute, speechless" being expressed by stumm).

Meaning "foolish, ignorant" was occasional in Middle English, but the modern use in this sense (since 1823) seems to be from influence of German dumm, especially in Pennsylvania German."

I don't think they HAVE aircon - which would explain why they are baking in summer and freezing in winter.

I have probably asked this before, but something my parents always did that mystified me completely...

... When it is warm weather, we HAVE to eat salad!!

Why? Can we not eat salad at any other time of the year? Are we not allowed to eat what we normally have when it's hot? 🤔🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

But I hear even now of a run on salad at the supermarkets whenever it's warm... It can't just be people over a certain age?! 🤷‍♂️

Well no, people are more likely to eat cold foods when it is hot weather, naturally enough.

But most people nowadays will eat salads at any time (just more of them in hot weather), and will also eat other foods when it is hot.

That may well be, but I've still never looked at the hot weather outside and thought

"You know what I need right now? To murder a nice big juicy lettuce!"

Sorry, it just doesn't compute with me along with cold foods in general... Or more, I don't think it has ever really occurred to me, other than, say ice cream or similar.

Everyone else must just be weird! 🤷‍♂️😆

Avoid Miller and Carter Steakhouse then.

For some baffling reason they serve a chunk of lettuce as a "palate cleanser" to help you enjoy your steak more. They claim this is traditional in the US - it isn't.
