I'm still kind of spoilt for choice locally, though I haven't used any for a few years. West London Models in Harlington are good for electrics (I ended up in 50cc electric equivalents, 24" props, 12 cell lipo packs and lots of power), Slough RC used to have a decent range and still stocked kits to build which was more my thing than ARTF stuff, and Addlestone Models, good for trains and cars, less so for aircraft and helis.

It might interest you to know that Slough RC is owned by Ripmax.

If you're wanting it for a trainer you're better off, especially for taking off, to hand launch. I'm assuming you want electric. You'll find bit easier to land too without an undercart.

He has a glider he hand launches , now ready for wheels . I went straight for wheels .

If you're still living near east or north London why don't you go to the Wings & Wheels model show, end of June just off the M11 near Harlow.

Great day out. Plenty of model flying as well as other modelling interests. Lots of tempting stuff to buy, I used to go every year.
West Wales these days, I'm afraid. The last model shop round here closed about three years ago.

Reminds me of the engineer dude in Flight of the Phoenix.
The German passenger or the planes engineer?

Now that's a proper model shop! All the bits and pieces you could possibly want.

Looking at the kits there I see that the Wot 4 is still going strong. Anyone had one or any Chris Foss stuff?

Had a good few. Middle Phase glider, WOT4, AcroWot. Ripmax did foamy versions of some not too many years ago which flew OK, but benefited from a decent motor upgrade.

I think one of the reasons I stopped was a lack of kits to build. When I started flying back in the late 80's you had lots of choice, mainstream but also lots of smaller 'cottage industry' stuff like Howard Metcalfe and so forth. All of them showed up at the Sandown show until it started getting stupid expensive, and once ARTF came along most have all but disappeared.
