I think there are far too many adverts but appreciate they have to be there to cover costs of printing and distribution. Some of the articles could be a lot longer I feel as they seem more like snippets of what could be a longer piece.

I do wonder why more people, including me, other than being present on my bike don't get more involved in such a potentially social structure changing subject. The CC Collective alone would be a loud voice on its own were it to become more than an interesting cycling forum. Similarly, all these disparate groups working alone would surely make more of a difference working with each other.

Personally I was all for the change in the first place and voted for it and have been, in general, happy with the direction of the organisation. They do the hard miles campaigning and sitting on boring government committees trying to make cycling better for all of us.

Re the name change ; just the sheer number of socks and sandals jokes that still appear every time the ctc is mentioned even now explains why the name HAD to change .
I totally understand why a hard core of members loved the club as it was but to the rest of cycling world from racers to leisure riders, just saw the ctc as full of people wearing socks and sandals and wool jerseys, riding steel bikes with toe clips, happily living in the 1940/50s.
And that’s definitely NOT what my local group is like.

Maybe, but changing the name to "CUK" was a bit of a 🤦 (sounds like cuck, short for cuckold) and the latest branding is a smaller face-palm: do they really want people to feel the sun is setting on the era of cycling? They also didn't need to let the executive hijack and vet the board candidates as much as they do, nor let (or are they invited by the exec?) non-members stand for election.

The reform wasn't all bad, but that doesn't mean we have to pretend it was all good.

Henceforth I will be taking my renewal decision on purely commercial terms, which organisation offers me the best value for money for insurance and legal aid. I now understand that the CTC that meant so much more than that is dead. RIP.
As you and many are likely aware, worth people checking their home insurance as this might cover 3rd party when cycling (even if your bikes are not on the policy). But policies differ so check. My own policy covers 3rd party whilst cycling bundled in with the policy which means some do but I'm sure others don't or might not offer sought cover.

Just posting for general info.

This was at Eden Camp… pre Cycling UK and CUK.
I don’t really understand brand refresh’s. It is purely to make to logo look trendy and modern?

I never said it was all good . But the alternative was for the organisation to slowly die as us old sandal and sock wearing old crustys fall of our perch. The world has changed and we have to change too.

Also the record I think the latest rebrand of the kit is terrific and I will actually buy some for the first time ever in the 30 years I’ve been a member . The old kit was terrible, I might sometimes wear socks with sandals but I don’t want everyone to know .😂

That’s the main problem, the career charity bosses who have now taken over want to belittle and demean the old membership, the old membership don’t fit with the image that they have chosen for their marketing.

I don’t believe they have purposely belittled or demeaned them . They simply understand most of them will be dead or not cycling with in the next decade and decided they needed to be replaced with leisure cyclists like myself.

You're probably aware of this but here we go. The BC insurance covers your bike and third party. I've had a claim in progress for 10/11 months. I'm very happy with the third party and PI cover and support.

The bike insurance though is poor. The cover offers only "the current market value," in other words the second hand value. For many of us this would not replace the damaged machine. I understand why this cover is offered but in my view it's not good enough.

I claimed on my home insurance and received a full new for old payout on my bike, helmet, kit, and wahoo. I could also have claimed, but didn't think of it, a new HR strap, bar bag and bottles. It's surprising how much stuff gets damaged in a major RTC.

My current home insurance cover adds £50 to the premium. That's the first time I've had to pay an additional premium. The payout was £6700.
