Henceforth I will be taking my renewal decision on purely commercial terms, which organisation offers me the best value for money for insurance and legal aid. I now understand that the CTC that meant so much more than that is dead. RIP.
You're probably aware of this but here we go. The BC insurance covers your bike and third party. I've had a claim in progress for 10/11 months. I'm very happy with the third party and PI cover and support.
The bike insurance though is poor. The cover offers only "the current market value," in other words the second hand value. For many of us this would not replace the damaged machine. I understand why this cover is offered but in my view it's not good enough.
I claimed on my home insurance and received a full new for old payout on my bike, helmet, kit, and wahoo. I could also have claimed, but didn't think of it, a new HR strap, bar bag and bottles. It's surprising how much stuff gets damaged in a major RTC.
My current home insurance cover adds £50 to the premium. That's the first time I've had to pay an additional premium. The payout was £6700.
