I'm bored today (only 3 emails so far) so thought I'd set you all a challenge:

My wife is about 5' 1" and slender. I sold her men's MTB on Eblag because it was too long for her and was giving her neck and shoulder pains so we need to replace it.

She doesn't want a balls-out MTB or a proper road bike but thinks a hybrid might do the job of being reasonably fast on road with the occasional light off-road trip thrown in. She wants comfort, plenty of gears and suspension forks because bumpy trails make her arms twitch!

Budget is around £400-500. I would prefer her to have a steel frame because I think ali is too harsh. Definitely not a step-through frame! No preference on groupset. We don't want anything too heavy either, being light she's easy on wheels etc.

Any suggestions?

Well that got you all going didn't it!

She's decided to test ride this, which we have found at a LBS in small size reduced from £650 to £450. It's the 2008 model and looks like a prefect fit.

May i suggest having a look on this site?

You can select your bike type and then further refine the selection by gender, price, suspension etc

Once you choose a bike - it gives you a "One Up" and "One Down" (in price) comparison and also other bikes to consider.
