So where do these fit into the scheme of flip flop. slip on, sandal or slingback then,

I'm surprised you need to ask. It's not a shoe as it doesn't cover one's feet. It's not a flip flop as it has a slingback thingy. Therefore it must be a sandal

I'm struggling to understand what's so difficult about this

Flip Flops can always be identified by the thongy thing between the big and second toe. If it doesn't have this it can't be a flip flop and therefore must be a sandal (I won't even lower myself to consider a "flandal" which sounds like an Austrian dessert you might see on GBBO)

Confusingly, sandals can either have or not have the thongy thing. But one thing's for sure, flip flops must have them. End of.

Good grief, all this pedantry whilst missing the major, important point:

Crackle was wearing WHITE SOCKS with sandals!


Really, enough of all this displacement activity, let's get back to our proper job of pointing and laughing.
