My commute is 15 miles round trip on road, some good and bad surface patches mostly ok, on my Rockhopper with slicks or my other hybrid bike.

Considering getting a road bike and was looking at the Spesh Allez or tricross.

Any advice appreciated.

Thanks.

Dawes are o.k. in that price band, however with the sales on you maybe able to pick up a £700 model for £500-600 if you shop around. B'twin from decathlon stores may be up your street!

Got a Specialized Allez 16. Love it. However this is my first experience of a road bike (not a 2nd hand pig metal one). So can't say if it is relatively better than any others.

What about a carrera vanquish?

  • Lightweight carbon fibre fork
  • Shimano Tiagra/Sora 18 speed gearing
  • Powerful Tektro R730 dual pivot brakes

It has mounting points for a rack (as far as i can tell form the pic ) which i find a must for my commute of 10 miles , i hate sweaty back syndrome and i can carry more stuff

Thanks for advice - have purchased an older 531 based road bike in meantime it is nice and will be good for winter commuting - probably go for an Allez in the spring/summer.
