Doesn’t matter as long as the same surface is used when translating the angle from bike x to buy or x + 1.Whatever you use check the bike is on a level surface before you begin.
I have one of those on my road bike, they're a great invention.I can't say I've measured mine but I think it does very from bike to bike because of seatpost/head angle, reach etc.
One thing that makes the job easier is a two bolt saddle clamp which gives infinite angle choice rather than the single bolt cradle style which locks with each indentation.

of course you just need to find the right hill and set itPerfect if you want it 0/180 degrees. But I like the nose up. Tried this by marking the nub of the bubble, but for me it’s not perfect. And yellow. I want orange.
