.........On the crazy calories theme, my great uncle used to make some rather Elvis-esque sandwiches with me: two slices of thick white bread, butter, strawberry jam, then cut into 4 pieces and battered before being deep fried until the batter was golden and crispy and the jam had gone molten.

We make something very similar with the Scouts when camping. They're shallow fried though, and known as "Campfire Doughnuts"; they're surprisingly good........

You don't get fat from eating fat. You get fat if your input exceeds your output.

The kitchen table and chairs were taken out into the garden on sunny days.
Then we ate paste sanrnies with a pot of tea and either a cake mum had baked or fresh bread pudding. Yum yum.

Have had scrambled egg on toast many a time, often instead of cereal after a night on the booze. Next time I wake up with a hangover, I'll give the sandwich version a try.

Every Christmas period, my Dad has Christmas cake sandwiches (with butter). I tried it once and it wasn't too bad.

I've just remembered another one, my Dad used to make me fried Spam sandwiches; On it's own it's truly disgusting stuff, but when it's shallow fried until crispy it becomes more than acceptable.
