I didn’t have you down as one those namby pamby low salt healthy eaters .

Yes, the lower salt the better. Though I do have some salt in my diet as it's supposed to keep leg cramp at bay. Though if it does it didn't work today as I was in leg cramp agony for 10 minutes after it got me while in bed! 🧐

As a fellow sufferer you have my sympathy, it can be agony. I have taken a magnesium supplement in the past which I think helped, but I prefer to go naturally and up my intake of magnesium rich foods .
Plus stretching .

I have all of these in my diet apart from avocados and tofu. https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/10-foods-high-in-magnesium#whole-grains I've had leg cramps on and off since I gave up cycling and most forms of exercising, going on for 5 years now. 🤔

I've always felt cramps were a measure of how fit I am.

When I am fit and regularly cycling big miles, I never suffer from cramps.

When my fitness isn't what it should be, I often experience cramps when riding. A cramp on a fixed wheeler at high cadence is not fun.

Started young, and still going.

Barnet,
I used to eat banana sandwiches sprinkled with sugar as a kid, and as mentioned by some others, sandwich spread, which you can still buy.

Beef dripping, definitely. You just don't seem to get the fat on supermarket joints to replicate it anymore.
Sandwich spread seems to have re appeared on shop shelves. I used to like it, not sure I want to try again.
Fish cake and tomato sauce.
Ditto fish fingers...

At Christian Salvesens in the 70s and 80s , they had a contingent of Italians who had stayed after the war apparently, a whole community in Peterborough They came from very rural stock and Sebastian was legendary for his sandwiches. Typically each slice was easily 1 inch thick, stuffed woth all sorts of traditional and rustic ingredients. One day we looked up to see him with this jaw breaker filled with what looked like a half inch of spinach...and raw (we assume) anchovies, the heads and tails hanging out the edge, looking like they were trying to escape 😀
Legendary...he was a big big hulking fella, a simple but wonderful fella. Funny how a post here can remind you of someone years ago...

I've just remembered another one, my Dad used to make me fried Spam sandwiches; On it's own it's truly disgusting stuff, but when it's shallow fried until crispy it becomes more than acceptable.

Very much more than acceptable.

Especially if you add a fried egg, bacon, and a hash brown as well.
