Gordon, is this directed at me?
If so, you know I don't do fancy tyres, so yes, this is perfectly possible on 700x28c with mudguards.
It's gravel, but only towpath gravel.

Rats, I've only got 25's on my winter fixed (23's with minimal clearance on the Condor). I'll have to see if I can get a handbuilt gravel bike in time.

Clarity in all things! Thanks and Yes it's what I thought. But towpath gravel in December/January is potentially a sticky beast... I envisage @geologycycle leaving me standing!!!

I've ridden this route a few times. It's well groomed gravel. There wasn't any mud anywhere we rode. I reckon 25c would be OK as well Nick. It'll be less muddy than your diversion through Wimbledon Common in the rain!

Does anyone fancy a ride to Ware, following the canals and off-road paths?
We'd actually end up in Welwyn Garden City for the train home, but "a ride to Ware" has a certain ring to it!

I've ridden this a couple of times and it's a nice route going through some interesting locations. Lots of celebration of London's industrial past.
We should probably start in the Olympic park, rather than at HPC.
Wrong direction for me I'm afraid.

Nope. 32km/20 miles. Finish at Russel Square for brunch.
I think @topcat1 is referring to the Ware ride floated by @AlexB .
