Geoff could you get your post broken out to a seperate, stickied, thread as the 'Chaingang Handicap Ride' and then lock it so only you can add or edit it. I was trying to find your original list and it is more than 10 pages back (I stopped searching there).

If this is sucessful we could make it a monthly event after a chaingang league. Giving the league organisers a couple of weeks to get the next league ready.:notworthy:

I like it!

In theory if everyone is sitting in the warmup at the start they should finish with an almost identical time. If they start peddling at their assigned start time.
As Geoff will post soon, we will each need to be poised with the session password entered, and ready to hit <NO> as soon as the elapsed time hits your handicap. Then you literally hit the ground running, at Mach 4 with your pants on fire.

OK, I've created a separate thread for the handicap races and started it with a post on how to join the rides

Chain Gang Handicap Race

Not sure it needs a sticky, as it should come back up to the top when a ride is imminent, and then drift down the order when no ride is planned.

I've added a second post with the current start times for the current race. Before each race I'll edit this, so it is the official place for the times to be posted.

Cheers,

Geoff

I've just started a practice session if anyone wants to try the procedure for joining ...

I'll leave it running for a while, and will try to do a few more during the week.

Can anyone who has a go feedback how they get on, in case we need to refine the process or update the notes.

Will do my best to be there, still got a cold so breathing might be fun, not sure i'll be competetive so a great opportunity for RickB, Bridgy, Runar and C J Bon to pip me in the league standings. RickB will get past me, I'm not going to fight that one :surrender:

I might have a go and make sure Bridgy only gets 5 minutes ahead, if I fail that, i'm likely to fail on the next couple of places as well That hill might have me walking up it.

Just seen you succeeded in keeping it to 5 minutes and pipped me by 18 seconds in the overall standings in the end - well done :highfive: - that was close, after 3 and a quarter hours of racing! Were you aware of how close it was while you were riding the final stage?

I was, I knew I had to keep you within 5 minutes, I had given up hope when I was six minutes behind but got a second wind for the big descent and didn't look at the screen until I'd finished, 4m59s behind your ghost. However I concede the position due to the on/off advantage I gained in stage 3. :okay:

Great motivation though, not sure I'd have been much quicker without my current cold.

I have just jumped onto a live session in warmup. I left my avatar on the start line for 17 minutes elapsed time before I moved the pedels by hand to start riding. It was a downhill start so almost no resistance and the coast down lasted a while. When it stopped it and asked to finish the session. I said yes and my result was 18 minutes to do 0.1 miles.

I've looked back at my times for the various chaingang sessions and I think my stg 1 this time round is an outlier. I was getting over my man flu xx(:surrender:and was still a bit down.

My Sitka stg 3 time should be at least 7 minutes quicker due to visitors and other issues

I think, at best, I should go with GW @ 2.5 . Or at worst possibly @5 minutes between bert and paul :headshake:

Yes I think you're right. Only the ones with no handicap should start normal. All others should join after their handicap time has elapsed.
