I think thou doth protest rather a lot when it comes to this grooming malarkey
But anyway, it's all in the rules. #33 if I remember right. I thought it would be almost rude not to in modern day time trialling circles.
Whether grooming would actually be required before the shaving commenced is another matter of course ;)
Discussing grooming and whether or not I should shave my legs is quite disconcerting! I'm away to hide in a shadowy corner.

I'd be really keen to give this team handicap a go Geoff, if we can get enough people interested. I guess we'd need a minimum of 3 teams of 3 so minimum of 9 turning up, but obviously more would be a lot better. Hopefully it could be set up in such a way that it can run irrespective of who turns up and there could perhaps be some contingency plans to jump teams at the last minute if one team lacked numbers at the start. Team Colours perhaps?
If we don't have the numbers to do this I think we're all happy with the existing format and on tried and tested stages.

Handicap Team Time Trial

@BILL S I was thinking the teams should ideally be 4 people, and take the time of the third across the line, so a drop out or mechanical doesn't wreck the whole team.

That means we should try and get at least 12, preferably 16 people signed up.

Looking at the Handicaps and who can usually show up, it would look something like...

Team 1: Goldwolfie, TheBoxers, GailB, Whorty (and/or Kapelmuur, RamirezAGC, Jamie and/or Rob.)
Team 2: Stuart, Soarerv8, Ste, Bert, JLaw (and/or GoldWolfie)
Team 3: Adam, Tommy, CXRAndy, Monte, John18 (and/or Kipster)
Team 4: Bill, Bridgy, Bob and Lars (and/or Adam)

Obviously these would have to be adjusted slightly depending on who can make the ride, and plenty of room for anyone else who wants to give it a go.

Start each team off at the Start Time of the third member and the team has to work together to get third guy across the line to beat their handicap by more than the other teams! :hyper:

So something like Team 1 Starts at 0:00, Team 2 starts around 6:45, Team 3 around 10:10 and Team 4 at 13:45 (adjusted to suit final teams).

If it's to work it would need at least three in each time to show up!

Could be interesting to try it out before summer kicks in, then if it works we can make it a regular next winter?

Please let me know who would like to give this a go (perhaps this Tuesday and/or next), and any suggestions to improve the concept.

Cheers,

Geoff

Handicap Team Time Trial part 2

Just a thought!

If it's a time trial perhaps running them together would cause a problem if a faster team caught one in front, so perhaps the gaps should be larger, to give space, or they could even be run at a time to suit the team, then more people can take part, so long as a time can be found to suit each team.

How about maximum flexibility...

Everyone who wants to take part signs up, and the teams are allocated.

The lowest handicap rider in each team is nominated as team leader.
A league session is set and each team can choose to run it at Tuesday 8pm, or any other time (or multiple times if desired).

If running together in a session the start times are separated by enough to ensure the teams do not catch each other, but the gaps will still show to give an idea if you are gaining enough time or not.

The winning team is the one that gets the fastest third time (moving time + Handicap)

Thoughts?

Cracking idea...I'm in. Very much like the look of my team too, although I wouldn't mind dropping @TurboTommy because we're not talking at present, as I feel quite threatened by his recent performances.

Did Stage 1, looks like its registered in the league, thanks to bkool for messing up closing times!

I found it a real struggle for the 1st half of the ride, but eased into it. Most of the ghosts beat me, and sorry Stuart, you were 23 seconds ahead at the start of that bump at the end, I didn't think I would catch you, let alone get 10 seconds on you.

I don't think early morning fasted rides suit me.
You didn't fancy taking my time then ha ha

Should be ok for Tuesday this week but will struggle on Thursday as I'll be late in from work.

Sounds like it could be a good laugh Geoff.

@adds. No way I get near your best efforts mate! But I'd be proud to stick on a big bird outfit and join your team! :hugs:

I think we may need to rattle a few cages to get this off the ground though. Numbers may already be a bit thin?

As the weakest member of my team I think the tactic would be for me to bury myself on the front for as long as possible, before dropping off and leaving the fastest three to finish off - whilst carrying on as best I can in case of technical issues for one of the others. The key to getting that right would be knowing when my speed had dropped enough for you to drop me. (I always find this tricky with drafting as it usually feels like you're taking it too easy - until you go in front!)
