@Breedon I would say alongside CXRAndy at 5:30 should be a good fit?
Yeah sounds good to me.

@Bonno How about you start at 8 minutes 15 seconds elapsed?

Then if the Bill, Bob, Bridgy (how come all you guy's names start with B) train catches you, you can join in!

Geoff
Sounds good to me Geoff, thanks.

Bill and Bob (and maybe Lars?), we're definitely going to have to work together at the start to catch Bonno as he was pretty darn quick in the last chaingang stage....:okay:
Yes, but at that time of night us oldies are usually having cocoa and a nap on the settee, so if i don't make the finish you'll know why :tired:

Thanks @gbrown

I'm trying to race home to be back in time - it's going to be touch and go.

Just so I'm clear - are we all to log on for the start at 8pm and then start at our handicap time after the original gun , so in my case 3m 30s after?

The next Handicap Chase is Tin Can Ten Time Trial

Next run is 8pm (plus handicap) tonight, Tuesday 18th October 2016.

Start Times (Handicaps) are as follows... (when underway time equals or exceeds the given values).

If anyone else wants to take part, can they let us know a competitive time for the stage, or failing that, their fitness level and who they usually finish close to.

Your handicap is based on your previous times, and is used to generate a Start Time.

Like golf, the higher the Handicap the more assistance you get, so the earlier the Start Time.

Your Handicap is reduced slightly if you have only completed one chase, and reduced more if you have completed none (and your time is based on doing the stage outside the handicap format). Therefore you are rewarded for completing the handicap chase once, and rewarded more for a second one, as your time should more closely reflect your current potential.

Finally, the Handicap is also reduced slightly for those who are furthest behind the fastest time, as they have more chance of significantly improving their times. The front runners will always struggle to improve their times much, especially after a couple of runs, so they need the full Handicap to stay competitive.

This algorithm has developed across several stages (and previous Chain Gang rides) and closed the bulk of the field from around 10 minutes to around 3 minutes, and hopefully future runs will close it up again slightly.

It is always likely that the win will be taken by an early starter who improves significantly, which is probably a good thing as it improves motivation. It is also possible that any significant under performance on previous bests will result in trailing in at the back, for even the fastest riders. I don't think this can be helped. However, so long as the bulk of the entrants finish close together it should make for a more entertaining session for the majority, and make the format worthwhile.

Geoff
Dear benevolent Uncle Geoffrey, I would like to supply you with the evidence of me being awfully slow last week finishing dead last and this being based upon when I was less awfully slow.

Pretty much right Martyn. Warmup 7:50 Start 8:00 Your Start 3m 30s after the countdown reaches Zero (when we would normally all blast off the line). It'll work fine if you want to do the warmup then wait on the line for 3:30m, alternatively there is a way to join directly at your time from bsim but you'd have to read Geoffs instructions to do that.
